SUMMARY:Practice Lab: Trauma-Informed Civic Education
DESCRIPTION:How can we design educational programmes that foster democratic
  values while creating safe learning environments and taking the impact of
  trauma into account?\n\nThe answers to these questions cannot be found in
  theory alone. They emerge through professional dialogue\, analysis of rea
 l-life cases\, and collaborative problem-solving.\n\nThat is why we invite
  civic education practitioners to join the Practice Lab—an international
  professional exchange dedicated to advancing trauma-informed approaches i
 n civic education.\n\nThe Practice Lab is organised as part of the project
  "Co-creating and Implementing Trauma-Informed Tools for Civic Education i
 n Eastern Partnership Countries."\n\nWho is this Practice Lab for?\n\nWe w
 elcome professionals who already have experience applying trauma-informed 
 approaches—or individual trauma-informed principles—in their education
 al practice.\n\nThe Practice Lab will be particularly relevant for:\n\n 	e
 ducators\;\n 	trainers\;\n 	facilitators\;\n 	human rights education profe
 ssionals\;\n 	youth workers\;\n 	representatives of civil society organisa
 tions\;\n 	researchers of educational practice.\n\nWe are looking not for 
 passive participants\, but for colleagues who are willing to share their e
 xperience\, discuss complex professional challenges\, and collaboratively 
 develop new ideas and solutions.\n\nWhat makes this format unique?\n\nThis
  is not a conference. It is not a training course. And it is not a series 
 of lectures.\n\nThe Practice Lab is a space for peer learning\, where ever
 yone is both an expert and a learner.\n\nEach participant brings their own
  professional experience: successful practices\, challenging situations\, 
 and questions that still have no straightforward answers. These experience
 s become the core content of the programme.\n\nHow will the Practice Lab w
 ork?\n\nEach participant will prepare and facilitate a 30-minute practical
  session for the group.\n\nThe format is flexible and may include:\n\n 	pr
 esentation of an educational case\;\n 	an interactive learning activity\;\
 n 	a practical workshop\;\n 	a facilitated discussion\;\n 	analysis of a p
 rofessional dilemma\;\n 	exploration of a challenging situation from one's
  own practice\;\n 	demonstration of a method or educational tool.\n\nWe pa
 rticularly encourage participants to share not only success stories but al
 so professional challenges\, mistakes\, uncertainties\, and questions that
  require collective reflection.\n\nTogether we will explore\n\n 	how traum
 atic experiences influence educational processes\;\n 	how to create safe l
 earning environments without reducing participation and open dialogue\;\n 
 	how to address the diverse needs of different learner groups\;\n 	how to 
 support the wellbeing and resilience of educators\, trainers\, and facilit
 ators\;\n 	how to evaluate the effectiveness of trauma-informed educationa
 l programmes\;\n 	how to integrate trauma-informed approaches into civic e
 ducation while preserving its democratic and participatory nature.\n\nA ce
 ntral part of the programme will be devoted to analysing real cases contri
 buted by participants. Together we will examine concrete situations\, expl
 ore alternative responses\, and discuss which approaches may be most effec
 tive in different educational contexts.\n\nWhat will be the outcome?\n\nTh
 e Practice Lab is more than an opportunity for professional exchange.\n\nA
 s a result of the collaborative work\, participants will become co-authors
  of an international practical guide on applying trauma-informed approache
 s in civic education.\n\nDuring the Practice Lab we will develop the first
  drafts of:\n\n 	practical checklists\;\n 	recommendations for educators\,
  trainers\, and facilitators\;\n 	response protocols for sensitive situati
 ons\;\n 	educational programme analysis tools\;\n 	guidance on creating sa
 fe learning environments.\n\nFollowing the event\, these materials will be
  piloted in educational practice\, further refined\, and published as open
 -access resources.\n\nParticipation conditions\n\nFor participants selecte
 d through the open call\, the organisers will provide:\n\n 	accommodation 
 in shared twin rooms\;\n 	meals throughout the event\;\n 	reimbursement of
  travel expenses.\n\nA limited number of self-funded places will also be a
 vailable.\n\nThe working languages of the Practice Lab are English and Rus
 sian. To participate fully\, it is desirable to have at least a basic unde
 rstanding of both working languages. However\, we strive to make the Pract
 ice Lab as inclusive and accessible as possible. We recognise that each Ea
 stern Partnership country has its own official language and rich linguisti
 c heritage. English and Russian have been selected as the working language
 s solely for practical reasons\, as they currently enable the broadest pos
 sible participation and communication among professionals from across the 
 region. If the composition of the group allows for mutual language support
 \, we also welcome participants who prefer to contribute in only one of th
 e working languages or in their native language. In such cases\, we encour
 age peer interpretation\, where participants help one another understand d
 iscussions and exchange professional experience.\n\nVenue: Vilnius\, Lithu
 ania\n\nDates: 20–22 September 2026\n\n 	20 September: arrival before 14
 :00\, followed by opening working sessions\;\n 	21 September: full day of 
 collaborative activities\;\n 	22 September: working sessions until 12:00\,
